PRE Waxing

  1. Allow the hairs to grow. Allow 3-4 weeks since your last shave or wax service. Approximately a quarter of an inch of growth is required for the wax to grip adequately.
  2. Shower the day of your waxing service with a Simple Cleanser with no excessive fragrance or added ingredients.
  3. Exfoliate a day or two before your service. Don't use a rough exfoliant or scrub so hard as to irritate your skin.
  4. Take a warm/hot bath immediately before your service to open your pores and make for a comfortable service.
  5. Moisturize regularly but NOT on the day of the waxing service.
  6. Wear loose clothing.

POST Waxing

  1. Minimize sweating for 24 to 48 hours to allow your skin to heal and inhibit microbial growth that can inflame hair follicles. Avoid sex for the same period for Brazilian or Bikini waxing.
  2. Do NOT Exfoliate for 48 hours after your waxing service.
  3. Consider an ingrown hair prevention serum after your service, such as the brand called PFB, which is a great aftercare product to prevent ingrown hair and skin. They also carry a brand that will lighten skin color hyperpigmentation.
  4. Moisturizing can resume the day AFTER your service. Wait two days if irritation has occured.  Moisturizer will keep your skin and new hair healthy and will soothe your post-wax skin.

Can Waxing permanently remove hair?

Waxing will not permanently remove hair, but clients report thinner and finer hair after waxing for a period of time. All of the hairs will be on the SAME "shedding cycle" after waxing for a while, so subsequent wax services will have a longer hair-free period. Also, these subsequent wax services will not "miss" shorter and fine hairs not on the same"shedding cycle". The result is usually seven to ten days with no visible hair, but it will not result in permanent hair-free skin.

Is Waxing Painful?

Modern “Hard Wax” does not hurt as much as the softer “Strip Wax”. Regular waxers will tell you it doesn't hurt at all. Avoid Soft wax where your waxer uses a cloth strip. Hard Wax is removed without a strip and is formulated to contract as it cools, pre-tensioning the hair follicle. The pre-tensioned hair will slip easily out of the follicle. Soft wax does not pre-tension the hair and the follicle itself may be damaged, resulting in pain and an increased likelihood of ingrown hairs.

Does waxing become less painful over time?

Yes, clients often report waxing is less painful over time. The follicles will gradually be in the same growth cycle, so all of the hairs will be the same length. This will help with uniform wax coverage and the necessary pre-tensioning before pulling the strip. The resulting hairs will more easily slip out of the hair follicle without as much pain.

What is a Brazilian Wax?

Brazilian wax is a women’s hair removal service that includes the areas that would be covered by the material of a thong. The anterior pelvic area, outside and insides of the labial folds (if needed), the perineum, and the midline bum crack.

How much does a Brazilian wax cost?

In New Jersey, wax franchises are charging $58 to $70 for a Brazilian wax. Other salons are more affordable. Euro Tans and Spa has a Wax membership for only $29.70 where you can wax as often as every four weeks without a surcharge.

What is the best Type Of Wax?

Estheticians use TWO kinds of wax. Hard wax and Soft wax. Hard wax is preferred because it pretensions the hair making hair removal less painful. Soft wax goes on the same way but is removed with a cloth strip that the waxer will place over the wax. If your technician uses a cloth strip then you know she is using soft wax.

What Is Sugaring?

Sugaring is the use of a viscous ball of sugar that sticks to hair and not to the skin. The same Sugar Ball is used again and again on a client. For this reason, Sugaring may not be as sanitary. With Waxing, a new strip of wax is applied with every pull. Many would consider Waxing more sanitary where Sugaring has a reputation of being less painful, though this may not be true of the newer hard waxes.

Is waxing better than shaving?

Shaving cuts the hair off where it peeks out of the follicle, leaving rougher skin and can also result in a rash, especially over tender skin.  Waxing leaves skin smooth by removing hairs from the root, below the surface. As a result, Waxing clients have no stubble for up to 10 days. Waxing exfoliates the dead skin cells as an added benefit, but may result in skin irritation for some.
